Northside Community Health Center in Lafayette began testing for COVID-19 on Thursday, April 30.

The drive-thru location opened at 10:00 am.

Those wished to be tested at the site are asked to call before arriving to be screened and pre-registered. The number to call is 337-678-9000.

"There will be no screening taking place," says Dodie LaMott of the experience people will have when they show up. "When they call and register there will be some questions they should ask. The idea will be you've already had the conversation. That is the idea of pre-registering."

LaMott says the over-the-phone screenings help with getting those in need of testing through the process as quickly as possible.

"It is set up to be a drive-thru. We are not asking anybody to get out of their vehicles. We'll have it where we will be bringing a mobile unit out there but the idea is to have them drive by. The office of public health will be working with us."

People who attend are asked to be prepared after pre-registering with a photo ID and insurance information.
