On Wednesday night, Hospice of Acadiana announced the building of a 10-bed inpatient hospice house in the heart of Lafayette.
The building, called the Calcutta House, will go up adjacent to the Hospice of Acadiana campus on Johnston Street.
Hospice of Acadiana works daily to provide end of life care for patients who have a diagnosis of six months or less to live.
Their goal is to give end-of-life care in a home setting, but Hospice says that is not always possible.
The house will allow Hospice teams provide next-level care while still in a home-like environment.
Donations are still being accepted to help make the house a reality. Those interested in viewing the plans or make a donation can do so at caseforcompassion.com.
