It's the year of the TikTok, the year of the Zoom call, and at North Vermilion High School, 2020 is the year of girl power.

"We're all very dedicated. We're all hardworking," says Katelyn Blanchard.

"They're all pretty much my best friends. We've been best friends since middle school mostly. A lot of them since elementary school," adds Claire Martin about the group of 9 girls who now hold the title of Co-Valedictorians for North Vermilion's Class of 2020.

"It's really cool that we get to do this together and have this part because we've all been in the 4.0 area our whole lives," adds Martin.

Most with the title don't get to share the valedictorian experience but this group is grateful to be coming out on top as a team.

"We all appreciate each other's friendship and we know that if we needed anything we could all go to each other for anything," says Co-Valedictorian Saylor Chanthavongsy.

They say they're glad, even in rocky times, their school has come together to support them.

"Our principal is doing the most he can for us and trying to include us in all the last things and it makes it better," says Martin.

The girls say they're looking forward to seeing all they can become in the next chapter.

"I feel like we're all going to go down some path that's going to make us successful and it's going to be awesome," says Martin.
