Gov. Edwards, U.S. Surgeon General to address state's response to coronavirus

On Thursday morning, Governor John Bel Edwards will meet with United States Surgeon General Jerome Adams to address the coronavirus in Louisiana.

The governor will be joined in his briefing by other local elected officials and health stakeholders to discuss the state's response to the first cases of COVID-19.

Edwards said in a press conference on Wednesday that he expects the illness to spread now that there have been 13 confirmed cases.

During that press conference, it was reported by the Department of Health that a presumptive positive cases was reportedin Iberia Parish. On Thursday morning, the LDH corrected their case list information to reflect that the patient currently resides in Lafourche Parish where they are being treated for the disease.

Iberia Parish has been removed from their case list.

Thursday's meeting will focus on how the state will be addressing the situation as it inevitably grows.

Following Thursday's meeting, the governor and surgeon general will hold a press conference to address the public. That press conference will be live streamed on the KATC Facebook starting at 9:45 am.

The Department of Health and Hospitals will update positives and other information on the coronavirus in Louisiana on their website every day at 9:00 am and 4:00 pm. ldh.la.gov/coronavirus.
