When it comes to dessert, there's always the question of whether or not savory flavors should play a role.

And that debate spills over to the sweet Mardi Gras treats that fill bellies in South Louisiana each Carnival season.

So, where does Acadiana stand on incorporating savory flavors into traditional King Cake recipes? There seem to be mixed feelings.

At Twins Burgers and Sweets in Lafayette, the brothers have put their heads together to inject some major Cajun flavor into their cakes. It's a transformation that takes them from dessert to main course.

The process is simple:

Wrapping boudin in their signature hamburger bun dough, the brothers top the rings with a generous helping of bacon bits before tossing them into the oven.

Once golden brown, the cakes find their sweet side with a drizzling of Steen's Syrup.

Abby shows us the finished product.
