Valentine’s Day is the busiest day of the year for most floral shops across the country as thousands buy flowers for their loved ones.

Americans are expected to spend $2 billion on flowers and one of Lafayette’s most popular florists shows that the expectation is likely true.

At Flowers and More by Dean in Lafayette, the orders are flying in by phone, online and in person this Valentine's Day weekend.

At this family run business, they believe shopping local is the way to go for special occasions like this one.

"A lot of emotion goes into it so each order we take, we read the names, the card letters, what is going on in their lives and we put all of that emotion in the design. When you're ordering 1-800 you will not get that top special priority that you would," says Tina Guidroz, the store manager.

After a few decades in business, she knows that Valentine's Day is so important that she'll call in reinforcements to make sure order filling and delivery runs smoothly.

"On a normal day we typically have a couple employees in the store and one on the road. On Valentine's Day, we need almost triple if not more employees because of the volume of orders. So that is the challenge, to make sure we have enough employees and that we have enough help to get all the orders delivered where they need to be on time," says Guidroz.
