The City of Crowley has made big strides in preserving its history, and in the month of May, that is to be celebrated.
"Theres so much history here! We have so many things to offer and there's so much culture and diversity downtown," says Jennifer Mixon, who owns Puddles and Lace, a children's boutique downtown. When she opened the business, she said there was only one place she wanted to set up.
"The only place I wanted to be was main street because there's so much historic preservation here and these beautiful buildings and I just love the atmosphere of being able to take a stroll down main street and get all these shops local," says Mixon.
Throughout the month of May the city had big plans to celebrate Historic Preservation Month. Since events had to be canceled, the Crowley Main Street Advisory Board got creative.
"We still wanted to celebrate our city's history and all the restoration work that has been done and figure out a way how we can help our small businesses so we came up with Main Street Trivia," says Jill Habetz, the president of the board.
The trivia is all about Crowley's history, and it is posted each Monday, Wednesday and Friday on the Main Street Facebook page. Everyone who comments on the posts is entered into a drawing for a gift card to one of the downtown businesses.
"It's so fun because its supporting our local businesses and it's teaching everybody about the history of our main street," says Mixon.
"We just want to promote our businesses as much as possible because this is main street, the heart of our town and we want them to thrive long after this is over," adds Habetz.
