Courirs start early on Mardi Gras in Acadiana

Courirs are getting started early in Acadiana.

In Basile, the Mardi Gras are all ready to head out and begin collecting money and ingredients for their annual gumbo.

That includes the anticipated chicken chase which draws locals and out-of-town visitors alike.

Katie Lopez and Abby Breidenbach were LIVE in Basile on Tuesday morning with more on the festivities.

Basile Mardi Gras gets started dark and early

For those who have had their fill of parades and beads can head out to several communities in Acadiana to view a traditional Cajun Mardi Gras.

It is a celebration of culture and community that is a must see for anyone who has never experienced the event.

Other towns along the Cajun prairie will be holding their own courirs today.

The Eunice Courir will start at 7:00 am at 501 Samuel Drive.

The Tee Mamou-Iota Folklife Festival starts at 9:00 am in Downtown Iota.

And in Mamou, the town's Mardi Gras festivities get underway at 9:00 am in the downtown area.

KATC will be out at many courirs and parades on Tuesday, covering the events as Acadiana celebrates Mardi Gras 2020.
