Groundhog Day will not be the same this year in Acadiana.
Pierre C. Shadeaux is taking a year off from his traditional appearance at Bouligny Plaza in New Iberia to decide whether we will have a longer winter or an earlier spring.
In a ceremony that was mostly virtual this year due to the coronavirus pandemic, legendary groundhog Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow, forecasting an additional six weeks of winter.
The annual ceremony was live streamed on YouTube. The event began February 2 at 6:30 Pennsylvania time, or 5:30 a.m. in Acadiana.
