There have been some renovations going on at Zoosiana, and we’re taking a look at everything that’s been done.

KATC’s Abby Breidenbach joined the Zoosiana crew on Thursday morning for a preview of all the brand new additions.

One of the biggest and most anticipated additions to the zoo is the new train that is making its return after being damaged in a fire in May 2018.

Other new additions include a playground, the new St. Francis Depot, and a tribute to the firefighters who helped during the train fire.

The Safari Express Train can seat up to 82 adult guests and is a great way to get a glimpse at some of the animals housed at Zoosiana, according to the zoo.

Abby took a ride on the Safari Express this morning.

The train follows a similar path to the old train with a few new additions. The train was special ordered for the zoo and includes safety panels, a handicap ramp on the last train car, and an emergency stop system that allow guests to alert the drivers to any issues they may experience while riding.

The new train can also fit twice as many people. The ride takes about ten minutes to complete and showcases some new animals recently purchased for the ride.

Zoosiana is open seven days a week. The train runs from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm during the week and 10:00 am to 5:00 pm on Saturdays and Sundays. The cost to ride remains the same at $3 for those 10 and above.
