Members of the Lafayette Historic Azalea Trail Committee joined GMA this morning to announce that azalea planting has begun.

The blooming of the azaleas and the Azalea Trail are a quintessential part of Springtime in Lafayette. But, like every year, the azaleas need proper care and maintenance to ensure beautiful blooms for the following season. The committee says that fall is the perfect time to begin planting.

Revitalization projects are already beginning along Coolidge Boulevard in the Oil Center and plantings are taking place in front of the French and Whittington Houses in Lafayette.

For more information on Lafayette’s azaleas, the Historic Azalea Trail, tips on planting and keeping azaleas, and the committee visit their brand new website at www.azaleatrail.org.

The blooming season begins February 23, February is also the official opening of the trail.
