Young families are flocking to Broussard because of the city's pledge to improve the quality of life. Almost a decade ago, voters approved a sales tax that would provide the area with a state of the art sports facility and park. St. Julien Park and the Broussard Sports complex opened to the public in 2017.
122 acres of land was transformed into fun for the whole family. Several baseball and softball fields were constructed, along with batting cages, pavilions, and concession areas. Of course there are playgrounds and a splash pad safely located nearby for younger siblings that just can't sit still in the bleachers.
There's an area for playing basketball, and tennis courts can be reserved with a few taps on your phone. Football and Soccer fields stretch as far as the eye can see! The walking trail will allow you great views of all of the facilities and if you add in the other sidewalks you can get a couple of miles worth of exercise. Those paths wind through a wooded area, then near stocked fishing ponds if you feel you need to wet a line.
When storms are brewing, a lightning detection system will give you an alert and enough time to pack up and move to safety. If you would like to get the family together for a picnic, but still have plenty of space for social distancing, they have you covered, literally. Covered picnic pavilions are available for rent too and are located near the ponds and playgrounds.
Even if you don't live in Broussard, it's worth a visit. And it's conveniently located minutes from Highway 90. For more information or reservations head to their website, https://www.broussardsportscomplex.com/ or their Facebook page.
