Abby’s Apps: Get clean with ‘Think Dirty’

Posted

Monday, KATC launched a new series called Abby’s Apps, featuring and reviewing different apps that should be interesting, helpful or maybe just fun to use on a smartphone during day-to-day life

In the first installment of Abby’s Apps, Abby takes a look at an app that could help users shift to a clean and healthy lifestyle.

It’s called “Think Dirty” but really, you’ll want to use it for getting clean.

The app is a quick and easy way to decipher long ingredient lists on your beauty, personal care, and household products.

Without getting into too many confusing details, the app shows a simple number rating based on evidence of carcinogenicity, developmental and reproductive toxicity, allergenicity and immunotoxicity.

On the dirty meter, the products that have the lowest health risks are ranked between zero and three. A product with potentially moderate negative health effects will be between 4 and 7. Products with potentially serious negative health effects will show between an 8 and a 10.

Users can utilize the app’s barcode scanner and search bar to see where products s stack up. Users can put products in a list to find average ranking.

If any specific item is dragging your score down, the “our picks” list in the app offers alternatives with less potentially harmful ingredients.

Abby’s Pros and Cons: I like that this app is easy to navigate and makes a complicated task of learning about and vetting your products, super easy. I didn’t like that not all of my products were in the app… however, submitting an item for review was simple.
