The Smoked Meat Festival returns this year in May. This weekend, May 17 & 18, the civic center grounds in Ville Platte will be full of booths where you can find chefs preparing for the World Championship Smoked Meat Cook-off.
Organizers put on the festival as a way to raise money for veterans. The festival will be open from 4:00 p.m.-12:00 a.m. on Friday. Admission is $5.00. Children 12 & under get in for free.

On Saturday the grounds will be open from 8 a.m.-midnight.
An opening ceremony will be held at noon. Veterans will post colors and perform a tribute to fallen soldiers and those missing in action. There will also be a guest speaker sharing about her patriotic service. All military in attendance will be given access to a hospitality room where there will be food, drinks, and an opportunity to share stories.
