Festival International is proud to announce Alsarah & the Nubatones will be performing in 2019.  Called “the new princess of Nubian pop”, Sudanese singer, songwriter and ethnomusicologist Alsarah is passionate about the intersection of culture, music and migration.

With a spellbinding voice, she blends East African tunes with Arabic sounds and traditions for a one-of-a-kind style she describes as “East African Retro-Pop.” As NPR recently raved, Alsarah and her band The Nubatones create “a lavish, joyful, era-spanning sound full of Arabic-language reflections on identity and survival. It’s modern and nostalgic, timeless and new.”

“Alsarah & the Nubatones create a beautiful fusion of cultures,” said Marketing Coordinator Carly Viator, “and we are so excited to welcome this group to Lafayette in April.” Festival lovers are encouraged to explore the 2019 artists in advance this year. “It’s fun to familiarize yourself with a band’s sound before they get to Festival. I know it gives me a special appreciation and connection if I learn about artists before hearing them in person,” Viator adds.

Three additional artists were leaked prior to Alsarah & the Nubatones.  Find out what you missed by heading over to www.festivalinternational.org/festival-news and get ready for the full lineup release this Friday, February 22nd.

This year’s festival takes place April 24 – Apr 28, 2019 in downtown Lafayette. The full release of the official lineup will be this Friday, February 22.
