This Pumpkin Pie In A Jar Is The Easiest Way To Bake A Homemade Pie

Posted
and last updated

Pumpkin pie is Americans’ favorite pie, even beating out favorites like pecan, cherry and apple. As such, many of us already have cherished family recipes for creating the beloved pie. But for those times when you need a shortcut, just head to your local Costco.

No, we’re not talking about Costco’s legendary pumpkin pie, although that’s always a must-buy. Nope. Costco is now carrying a brilliant baking-hack item called “Pumpkin Pie in a Jar.”

Made by Clara’s Kitchen, this product contains everything you need to make a delicious pumpkin pie, save for the crust and the eggs. The mixture already includes brown sugar, spices, heavy cream and, of course, pumpkin puree. So all you have to do is beat in the eggs and then pour the whole mixture into your crust.

You can use a store-bought crust (TheKitchn rates Trader Joe’s pie crust as number one in frozen crusts, with Mrs. Smith’s a close second). Or you can make your own crust with this highly-rated homemade pie crust recipe from Aida Mollenkamp of Food Network (you’ll need flour, butter, sugar, shortening and ice water).

You can also go the non-traditional route and try a crust made with graham crackers via the Bobby Flay method. This option just requires graham crackers, butter, sugar and cinnamon and it’s easy to blend in a food processor and press into a pie pan.

Whatever crust option you choose, Pumpkin Pie in a Jar is a kitchen pantry staple that will allow you to whip up a pumpkin pie last minute, whether it’s because your little brother flaked on bringing a dessert to the Thanksgiving table, or because you want to bring a sweet treat to a nearby neighbor who’s dealing with a health crisis.

It would also make a wonderful gift for a harvest-themed basket. Pair it with other fall favorites like pears, apple cider mix, rich hot cocoa and pumpkin oatmeal mix. It’s an easy way to spread Thanksgiving cheer to important people in your life, like the amazing teachers who spend all day with your kids.

Do you think you’ll toss out your family recipe in favor of this new product?
