My 2-year-old son loves to eat ketchup by the spoonful as I shudder in disgust — but these new candy canes might even be a bit much for him.
Archie McPhee, the Seattle-based retailer that specializes in fun and bizarre products, has introduced ketchup-flavored candy canes to add to your list of stocking stuffers. These red-and-white striped canes may look normal, but anyone unwrapping one and expecting to taste peppermint will be in for a shock.
The company promises that its Ketchup Candy Canes will “take your holiday from meh to magnificent,” based on the fact that ketchup “makes mediocre food edible.” I can’t disagree with them on that last bit, but that’s about as far as I’m willing to go.
These unique sweets are for sale in a pack of six for $6.50. If you order at Archie McPhee’s website, you’ll get free shipping if you spend at least $35, and every order comes with a free gift.
Ketchup isn’t the only new variety of candy cane the company has introduced for this holiday season. Lovers of Asian cuisine will also want to check out their new Shiitake Mushroom Candy Canes and Pho Candy Canes. The latter ones are green and white and promise to pack all the savory flavor of a bowl of that delicious Vietnamese noodle soup.
These new flavors join Archie McPhee’s already crowded buffet of interesting candy canes. They’ve also got ones that taste like macaroni and cheese, pizza, kale and rotisserie chicken.
OK, I’m not going to lie, the rotisserie chicken ones sound scrumptious right now.
If candy canes aren’t your thing (I never know which end I’m supposed to eat first), the company also has a wacky selection of other sweets. They’ve got pickle-flavored mints, bacon-flavored jelly beans and fried chicken-flavored hard candies to satisfy your sweet — and savory — tooth.
I think Willy Wonka would be proud.
