Just when you thought gnocchi couldn’t attain any higher levels of pillowy perfection, Trader Joe’s went and flipped the script with their new Chocolate Lava Gnocchi.
Chocolate Lava Gnocchi is one of Trader Joe’s newest releases, and this “sweet chocolate gnocchi with a molten chocolate center,” as the package states, is going to change everything you think you know about pasta.
The idea for the product comes from Lori Latta, Trader Joe’s vice president of product innovation, who was inspired while was browsing a Harrod’s in London. Harrod’s, a U.K. department store chain with a famous grocery section, had a dessert gnocchi item which sparked Latta’s creativity. She wanted to bring this delicious concoction to hungry shoppers in the U.S.
“This was originally designed to be dessert, but I think that there are some people who might make a dinner out of it,” explains Latta on the Trader Joe’s podcast, as reported by Business Insider. “They’re really easy to prepare because you just put them in a sauté pan with a little bit of ghee or butter and brown them. I think it takes no more than the cauliflower gnocchi, so six to seven minutes.”
So, if your pumpkin pie doesn’t turn out, it will be easy to reach for this quirky chocolate dessert to please hungry guests over the holidays.
The chocolate lava gnocchi reportedly has 300 calories per serving and costs $2.99 for one package.
