Halloween may be a day filled with fun (and candy!), but that doesn’t mean kids should stop learning just because they’re getting ready for a night of trick-or-treating.
To make sure even a fun day like Halloween still keeps the creativity and learning flowing, a company called KiwiCo has released build-your-own costumes and a haunted house designed to inspire kids’ interest in science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics. The projects are available at their online store — no subscription required. Shipping is free on all orders of $24 or more.
Not only do the costume kits look totally Pinterest and Instagram-worthy, but they’re sure to give kids a boost of confidence in their smarts, too. The costume options include a princess, an alien space ship, butterfly/fairy wings, a unicorn or a dinosaur. Prices range from $10-$35, they’re designed for ages 5-16, and everything your child needs to create their masterpiece is included in the kit.
The felt unicorn costume, for example, costs $29.95, and your kids will learn about “unicorns” in real life, build a unicorn head with a light-up horn, decorate the head, make a rainbow unicorn tail and learn about iridescence. (For comparison, a similar children’s unicorn costume at Party City is $34.99.)
While the butterfly wings and princess costume also glow, the dinosaur costume includes a chomping mechanical head.
But the alien spaceship has to be the coolest of them all. Not only will your little trick-or-treater build a light-up UFO that they wear around their body, but it also comes with adorable green alien glasses.
Lastly, the haunted house is $24.95, for ages 9-16. Kids and teens can build the battery-powered haunted house with LEDs and vellum paper windows for a ghoulish glowing effect, then customize the house with cool and creepy decorations like cotton ball cobwebs and paper tombstones.
Have fun and keep the learning going!
