Broussard nursery/greenhouse implements drive-thru service

Girouard's Nursery and Greenhouse has been a staple in Broussard for decades. A place where the workers know your name and are there to help you every step of the way.

"As a business you have to come with ways to keep your customers happy and safe," manager Nick Girouard said.

Girouard said their checkout area is in a greenhouse. In order to keep people at a safe distance when they are visiting the nursery, they have started a drive-thru service.

"If you want to see a certain plant, then we'll go run and grab it for you," Girouard said. "We'll let you look at it, and you can make your decision from there. At least you can have access to whatever items you were looking for and keep everyone a little safer."

While things have been a little quieter, Girouard said they are figuring out this new concept and how to make it work for everyone.

"We're getting used to the new layout and (doing) things as a drive-thru type of nursery," Girouard said. "We'll see. It's been good so far."

As for the benefits of getting outside and in the garden, Girouard had this to say: "We've put quite a bit of emphasis on being outside. We enjoy being outside. I think it's good, and kids need a few minutes to get outside and take a break from being inside and learn a few things. Try out a few things. Learn to plant some vegetables--that's been a big thing. It's good for everybody--parents and kids."
