Two women, two men dead in Leon County plane crash

Four people, a Lafayette couple and a Natchitoches couple, are dead after a plane crash in Leon County near Hilltop Lakes Airport Sunday.

Kenneth Hix, 59, and his wife Missy Lynn Hix, 59, both of Lafayette; and Phillip Ackel, 59, and his wife Pauline Ackel, 58, of Natchitoches were on the plane when it went down, a spokesman for Texas state police told KATC.

A single-engine Piper PA-46 Malibu with four people on board crashed near Hilltop Lakes Airport in Hilltop Lakes, Texas, the Federal Aviation Administration said.

According to DPS, two men and two women were in a single engine plane traveling to Louisiana from the Austin area when they crashed near Hilltop Lakes Airport north of Normangee.

Flight records show the plane, registered to KMAC Bravo LLC, took off at 9:59 AM from Horseshoe Bay Resort in Horseshoe Bay, TX en route to Natchitoches, LA.

The call for the crash came in around 10:50 AM.

According to DPS, the pilot reported trouble to the FAA and was trying to land the plane when it crashed.

All four adults were pronounced dead at the scene.
