Police are investigating a body found in Cameron Parish, according to Cameron Parish Sheriff Ron Johnson.
A school bus driver reported to the Cameron Parish Sheriff’s Office at 7:13 am that the body was found on the side of the Sweetlake Camp Road, stated Johnson.
He said the body had been in the grass for less than 24 hours and appears to be a young adult white woman.
Sheriff Johnson said his office is investigating the incident as a homicide.
The Sheriff said that he does not believe the body has a connection to the severed head found near Calcasieu Lake in Cameron Parish on March 1. He said the body was discovered on the opposite side of the parish.
In that case, the Cameron Parish Sheriff’s Office said the woman’s head was found in a plastic bag on the shoulder of Hwy 27 and that it was believed the head had been outside for about three months.
The body was taken to the Calcasieu Parish Coroner’s Office for an autopsy
