Firefighters respond to blaze at Valero plant in St. Bernard Parish

MEREAUX — Firefighters in St. Bernard Parish responded to an early morning fire at the Valero refinery in Meraux.

Residents reported hearing an explosion around 12 am on Friday.

Photos and video from residents on Twitter show the flames.

According to Nola.com, a spokesperson for Valero, Lillian Riojas, says that one person was injured in the incident and taken to a hospital for treatment.

The cause of the fire has not been released.

Riojas says that the fire has been contained to the immediate area and that no off-site impact is expected.

The St. Bernard Fire Association shared a post to their Facebook page on Friday morning showing the flames.

"Several of our members are on scene of an incident at the Valero Refinery," the post reads. "Our members are working along side with Valero's Response Team."
