State Police say a Kaplan woman was killed Monday night following a two-vehicle crash on LA Hwy 14 in Vermilion Parish.
Troopers say the crash happened around 10:30 pm on April 13 near Huckleberry Road and claimed the life of 62-year-old Melinda Harrington.
A preliminary investigation revealed that, for reasons still under investigation, a vehicle traveling West on LA 14 crossed the center line and struck Harrington's vehicle head-on as she was traveling in the eastbound lane.
According to State Police, the driver of the westbound vehicle was unrestrained and suffered serious injuries.
Harrington, who troopers say was restrained at the time of the crash, received fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Vermilion Parish Coroner's Office.
Toxicology samples were obtained from both drivers. Results of those tests are pending.
The crash remains under investigation.
