Duson Police say that there were no injuries after a vehicle caught fire in front of Duson Elementary school on Friday.
Duson Police Chief Kip Judice says that a parent was dropping her child off at school when the vehicle caught fire. The mother was able to evacuate her two children from inside the vehicle and then move the car to an area in the parking lot away from buildings and other cars.
A soft lock down was ordered by the school and a full evacuation of the school following. At no time were the children in harms way, Judice said.
Duson Fire extinguished the fire and the vehicle was removed at which time normal school operations resumed.
Judice thanked the Duson Elementary Staff, Duson Volunteer Fire Department, Duson Police Department and the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office for their professional response.
