Coast Guard rescues four from burning boat in Chandeleur Sound

The Coast Guard says they have rescued four people from a burning boat in Chandeleur Sound off the Southeast coast of Louisiana on Monday.

The incident, according to watchstanders at the Eighth Coast Guard District in New Orleans, occurred around 2:36 a.m. Crews says a  passenger vessel, Grand Sun, had caught on fire near the Chandeleur Islands.

An MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans was deployed to assist those trapped on the burning boat. 

Four individuals were recovered from the boat and transported for medical aid at the Air Station New Orleans.

Crews are currently monitoring the vessel’s location and checking for possible pollution.
