MOSS BLUFF, La. (AP) – Louisiana authorities say a 24-year-old man died after falling out of a boat while baiting a trotline.
The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries says Lucas Marcantel of the LeBleu Settlement community near Lake Charles went overboard Monday evening on the east fork of the Calcasieu River. His body was found about 10 p.m.
The department news release Tuesday said Marcantel was not wearing a life jacket.
The Calcasieu Parish Coroner’s Office says an autopsy is planned.
The other person in the 15-foot aluminum boat told investigators he and Marcantel were baiting a trotline when Marcentel fell out and never resurfaced.
A trotline is a heavy line holding numerous smaller lines with hooks, set out underwater across a waterway.
