ST. MARTIN PARISH — Shortly before 4:00 p.m. Saturday afternoon, the St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office tells us they received a 911 call about a possible drowning in Belle River, LA., near Bayou Magazille.
Deputies say 58-year-old Donald T. Matherne of Port Allen was swimming with a group of friends near their party barge when they noticed that he had not resurfaced, and they were unable to locate him.
Deputies with the St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office, the Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Office and the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office all responded to the scene. His body was recovered by deputies in St. Mary Parish around 8:30 p.m.
